Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid for £70million in the summer transfer window.

He has gone on to score three goals in his first four Premier League appearances, including on his debut in the shock 3-2 defeat to Burnley.

After spending nine years in two separate spells at Chelsea, Drogba knows exactly what it takes to succeed in west London.

He says Morata must continue to score to match the expectations of the Stamford Bridge faithful.

“He’s scoring goals. On his first game where he came off the bench, he scored even though the team lost,” Drogba told Sky Sports News.

“Now he is scoring goals that are winning games so I am really happy for him and for the club as well.

"It is very important to score. For a striker it’s even more important to score because when you start with a new team, people have high expectations.

"When you match those expectations, you are just happy and the goals continue to come.

"I hope he will have a great, great season because we need that."

One of Morata’s three goals came in the 2-1 win over Leicester on Saturday, with N’Golo Kante getting the other against his former side.

Drogba was full of praise for the French midfielder and his former side’s performance.

"I was proud that he scored his goal,” Drogba added.

“It was a very difficult game. It is always difficult to play at Leicester so I am happy with the result."

Chelsea's next game is against Qarabag in the Champions League tomorrow night (7.45pm) at Stamford Bridge.
