Stoke 2-2 Man Utd: Rio Ferdinand expected a better performance from his former side

That is the view of pundit and former Manchester United centre-half Rio Ferdinand.

Jose Mourinho’s side were held at the Bet365 Stadium, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scoring his first two goals in English football.

Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku scored either side of half time to put United into the lead but Choupo-Moting headed home from a corner to take a well-deserved point.

Ferdinand was full of praise for Stoke even if it was a below-par United performance.

“Defensively I thought Manchester United they could have done a lot better in certain situations, particularly the goals,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport when asked if Mourinho would have expected better.

“But you’ve got to give credit to Stoke

“I think they really approached this game with a confidence that they could get at Manchester United.

“They played the ball in behind them all the time and they had a game plan, they stuck to it.

Romelu Lukaku praises "family man" manager Jose Mourinho

“That man there Darren Fletcher was the man behind a lot of their attacks and their forward-thinking passing.

“They have weapons, they have pace, they have people willing to run with the ball, run off the ball.

“They’re a dangerous side when they get going.”

United's next game is against Basel in the Champions League on Tuesday (7.45pm).
