Liverpool ace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: I’ve told Jurgen Klopp where I want to play

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN has told Jurgen Klopp he wants to play in an attacking role at Liverpool this season.

Klopp welcomes Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool

The England international ended his six-year spell at Arsenal this summer by sealing a deadline day switch to Liverpool.

Oxlade-Chamberlain came close to joining Chelsea but opted for a move to Anfield instead with the opportunity to work under Jurgen Klopp a big factor.

Many suggested the 24-year-old snubbed a move to the Blues because of his desire to play in a more central role in midfield.

At Chelsea, he may have been deployed as wing-back with Antonio Conte at the time looking for reinforcements in that area.

Now at Liverpool though, Oxlade-Chamberlain is ready to play wherever Klopp wants him to, although his preference would be as an attacking-midfielder.

“I’ve spoke about this for about six years - my whole career - where I'm going to be playing or where I'd like to play,” he told Liverpool’s website.

“I just say I'd like to be an attacking midfielder. I've spoke to the manager about this, there's going to be a lot of positions [available] in this team: up-front, because the wingers play a bit more inside, or the midfield.

Jurgen Klopp has a difficult decision deciding where to play Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

“I wouldn't like to put a label on it at this stage, I need to get a feel for how the team plays and obviously it's for the manager to decide.

“But ultimately, I just want to be able to be an attacking influence and have that effect further up the pitch; whether that's from an attacking midfield position or one of the wider positions coming in, I'm not too fussed.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hoping to make his debut against Manchester City on Saturday (12.30pm), but with Philippe Coutinho expected to return to the matchday squad he could be forced to start on the bench.
