Liverpool news: Nathaniel Clyne left out of Champions League squad

NATHANIEL CLYNE has been left out of Liverpool's Champions League squad for the upcoming group stage.

Nathaniel Clyne from SW4 to International footballer

Clyne has not played for Liverpool since suffering a thigh problem in their first game in pre-season in July.

It means he has not featured in any of Liverpool's matches this season with Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold deputising in his place at right-back.

But in a sign that Clyne's injury could keep him out for an extended period, Liverpool have omitted him from their Champions League squad.

Clyne can be reinstated for the knockout stages should Liverpool reach that point.

The severity of the injury is unclear and speaking in August, Klopp was unable to give an exact timescale for how long Clyne will be out for.

“We sorted it and with all experts and everything, not just our own medical department,” Klopp said.

“Having a rest and doing a program in the summer, he will be sorted. He started again and was not. That’s how medicine is.

“I have had situations like this. For us it’s another situation which is not perfect. We work on these things to find a solution.”

Wantaway midfielder Philippe Coutinho is included in the squad after his attempted move to Barcelona failed to materialise.

New signings Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Dominic Solanke and Mohamed Salah are also included.
