That is the view of Stijn Francis, who advises the Belgium international along with his father Vic.

Alderweireld, 28, has been one of Mauricio Pochettino’s shining lights since signing from Atletico Madrid in 2015 for £11.5million.

The Belgium international helped the club finish runners-up in the Premier League last season, scoring one goal from the heart of defence alongside Jan Vertonghen.

He is contracted to until the summer of 2020, but is yet to be offered fresh terms despite approaches by his representatives.

Pochettino bought in Davinson Sanchez from Ajax in a £35m deal to provide competition for Alderweireld.

But Francis reckons if Spurs do not hurry up and hand him a contract extension he will leave with EIGHT other clubs interested in signing him.

Francis said: “When you look at Toby’s statistics, they are impressive. Either he deserves an appropriate contract, or else he should be given a transfer.

“Seven or eight big European clubs are interested in signing him.

“There are not many central defenders around who can play like he can.

“But these clubs will have to negotiate with Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy.”

Up next for Tottenham is a clash with Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday (3:00pm).
