Mamadou Sakho joined Crystal Palace on loan last January and made a lasting impression at Selhurst Park.

The south London club made it clear they wanted to sign the defender on a permanent basis this summer but his £30million price-tag was a stumbling block.

But a £26m fee has now been agreed between both clubs and the former Paris Saint-Germain star is on his way to London.

There were fears the deal would not get over the line and Palace had enquired about Manchester City’s Eliaquim Managala as a back-up.

"I think he’ll go. There are a number of clubs interested in the Premier League,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

"Crystal Palace have a different manager [Frank de Boer] and that might be a problem going forward.

“I’m not sure how much he knows about him and the club still look like they want to bring Sakho in.

"But it’s understandable because he was so good for them last season in staying up with Sam Allardyce.

"I’d expect him to go there, I think they're arguing over a fee now and eventually they'll get there.

"Liverpool don't want the player, Crystal Palace want him so I’m sure there will be a deal done eventually."
