Manchester United will 'definitely' finish in the top two - Mark Lawrenson

MANCHESTER UNITED will finish in the top two this season if they fail to win the league Mark Lawrenson has claimed.

Lawrenson: Man United will definitely finish in the top two

Manchester United were top of the league at the start of play on Saturday after a strong start to the Premier League season beating both West Ham and Swansea 4-0.

The Red Devils are being tipped to challenge for the title alongside favourites Manchester City.

Speaking on Football Focus, Mark Lawrenson said that Manchester United would finish in the top two if they failed to win the league under Jose Mourinho this season.

He said: “I think they have got pace, power, strength, organisation and ability.

Manchester United will finish in the top two this season according to Mark Lawrenson

“They most definitely will end up in the top two if they don’t win it.

“I know it is an early shout but just look at them and just look at the strength and depth that they have got.

“Mourinho only gives that freedom if he knows that they are good, which they are.”

Manchester United face Leicester on Saturday evening and will attempt to defend their 100 per cent record so far.

Dion Dublin also stepped in as he evaluated why Manchester United have started so well.

He added: I just think they have got departments doing their jobs.

“Defenders are defending, trying to do nothing else but that, Matic just in front.

“The rest of the midfield players I am just looking at now and they are just going where they want to go. Pogba hasn’t got a position, best place for him.

“Going forward they just look so comfortable, and I just think it is round pegs round holes.”

Paul Merson cast his doubts over the start made by Manchester United this season and claimed he could see them facing a tough battle as they play Leicester.

“I’m not on the Manchester United bandwagon at the moment,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“They didn't look like scoring against West Ham for 25 minutes, and they were far from convincing against Swansea until their late flurry of goals.

“Leicester, meanwhile, have started the season well. They will be dangerous against a United side that are obliged to attack at Old Trafford.”

Merson did, however, predict Manchester United to beat Leicester 2-1 in the 5.30pm fixture.
