Shkodran Mustafi is reportedly a target for Inter Milan

Shkodran Mustafi has been linked with a move to Inter Milan as Arsene Wenger continues to thin out his squad.

The Arsenal boss claimed last week his team was ‘unmanageable’ and has since offloaded a number of defenders, including Gabriel to Valencia.

And according to The Mirror, fellow centre-half Mustafi will be the next to go with a number of the Gunners’ squad expecting him to be sold.

Inter have reportedly made a loan offer for the Germany international, however Arsenal will insist on the deal being permanent.

The Gunners are said to be keen to recoup the £35million they paid Valencia for the 25-year-old last summer.

And following an unconvincing first season in the Premier League, Wenger will not stand in the way of him leaving.

Mustafi’s return to English football was a shock after his previous unsuccessful spell with Everton as a youngster.

And the centre-half recently admitted he was surprised to be returning to the Premier League where he had previously had the worst time of his career.

“To be honest at the beginning I thought I was done with England,” Mustafi said.

"It was really frustrating and probably the worst time I had as a footballer. I didn’t want to go there again.

“But then when it came down to making a decision to stay or leave, I thought I would only leave Valencia if I had the opportunity to go to England.

“I was thankful that I had another opportunity to make a step forward by coming to Arsenal.”
