Garay has been strongly linked with a move to Juventus, who want a replacement for Leonardo Bonucci after his departure to AC Milan.

The 30-year-old has been the subject of interest from Premier League clubs in the past but no move materialised.

But deals for Arsenal’s Gabriel and Jeison Murillo on a two-year loan from Inter Milan mean Garay’s future is once again unclear.

And according to Valencia-based outlet Super Deporte, United sent chief Spanish scout Carlos Ruiz, Javier Ribalta, who is Manchester United’s top scout and another representative to look at Garay on Friday night against Las Palmas.

The report claims it is unusual for so many scouts to be at the match

The report claims it was unusual for so many scouts to be at the match, especially Ribalta, who gives final approval to players he rates.

Spurs are also said to have had somebody as the Mestalla watching Garay but they signed Colombian international Davinson Sanchez last week and have plenty of options in defence.

Valencia are understood to want between £22.8m and £25.6m for Garay.
