Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho discusses Danny Rose: I was not behind that interview

Rose rocked Tottenham in the week when he blasted the club for their failure to secure any signings this transfer window.

The England international has been touted as a potential target for Manchester United given their ongoing left-back woes.

Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind have all struggled to nail down a spot in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI during his first 12 months in charge.

Shaw’s agent yesterday said United were happy with him, but reports have suggested he could be included as part of a swap deal that would see Rose arrive at Old Trafford.

However, speaking ahead of the Red Devils’ Premier League opener against West Ham today, Mourinho insisted he was not behind Rose’s decision to publicly question Tottenham.

“I should not comment because Mauricio [Pochettino] would not be happy if I comment,” he said. 

“Mr [Daniel] Levy would not be happy if I comment and because I had nothing to do with that interview.

“I just read it the way you did, I just read but Danny Rose is a Spurs player and it is not my problem at all.”

Rose hinted that he would be interested in a move to United by saying he would be happy to return up north, where his family resides.

"I am reaching my peak and have probably only got one big contract left in me," the England defender told the Sun.

"Time is running out and I do want to win trophies. I don't want to play football for 15 years and not have one trophy or one medal.

"I will say this too, I will play up north. I don't know exactly when but I will get back up north and play some football somewhere. I have been away for over 10 years now and I don't get to see my mum that often.

"I'm not saying I want out, but if something came to me that was concrete, I'd have no qualms about voicing my opinions to anyone at the club."
