Philippe Coutinho: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp decides on Lorenzo Insigne as replacement

LIVERPOOL wants Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne to replace Philippe Coutinho if he joins Barcelona, reports say.

Liverpool are growing increasingly likely to lose Coutinho to Barcelona, despite Jurgen Klopp doing everything to keep hold of his star asset.

Express Sport understands the Catalan giants are expected to launch a fresh bid worth more than £100million in due course.

And Jurgen Klopp has already hinted that a decision over Coutinho’s future will lie with the board rather than himself.

Losing their chief playmaker would deal the Reds a huge blow as they aim to win a first league title since Kenny Dalglish led them to glory in 1990.

And the Sunday Mirror claims Klopp wants Napoli star Insigne to replace Coutinho should the Brazilian depart for the Nou Camp.

It is said the German has long admired the Italy international, who scored 20 goals for Napoli last season.

And though the Serie A giants insist the 26-year-old is not for sale, Klopp feels a £60million bid will be enough to tempt them into selling.

Liverpool are said to be compiling a list of replacements and, at the moment, Insigne ranks above the other candidates.

But, if Napoli get their way, Klopp may turn his attentions to Schalke prodigy Max Meyer.

The 21-year-old has snubbed an offer of a new contract with the German side and the youngster is supposedly happy to team up with Klopp at Anfield.

The German wanted to sign his compatriot when at Borussia Dortmund but Schalke ultimately won the race for his signature.

Tottenham are also interested in signing Meyer, as well as Carlo Ancelotti’s Bayern Munich.
