Bale won't join Man Utd this summer - Giggs

18:30: Ryan Giggs has backed Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to join Manchester United one day, but doubts it will happen this summer.

"I don't think it will happen in this transfer window but you can see it happening one day," he said.

"If Bale ever comes back to England there are very few clubs who would be able to afford him or he would want to play for.

"After Real Madrid only a couple of clubs can really compete for prestige or history.

"That's why the speculation happens every year but I maintain what I've always said, I think he's happy at Madrid."

Bale would win title

17.42: Gareth Bale would win Manchester United the Premier League title if he was to join from Real Madrid this summer, according to pundit and former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp.

Manager Jose Mourinho confirmed today he would try and sign him if he was not part of the Real squad for the Super Cup tomorrow against his United side.

Redknapp does not think Bale will move in this window but reckons it would be a wonderful piece of business.

"I don't (think it will happen) but if it did, I think you should just give United the trophy now," Redknapp said on Sky Sports News.

"It won't be to do with anyone else because Gareth Bale would rip the Premier League apart if he came here."

Mourinho wants Bale

16:48: Manchester United WILL bid for Gareth Bale if Real Madrid decide to sell him.

Express Sport understands Manchester United are interested in Bale, as are Chelsea.

And Jose Mourinho has confirmed ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Real that he will consider a move if Bale isn’t in the side.

“If he's playing tomorrow then I wouldn't think of that [signing Bale],” Mourinho said.

“If he's playing tomorrow it's because he's in the club's plans. He has that ambition to continue in Madrid.

“I haven't even thought about the possibility. If he's not in the club plans - that what you are writing is true - with the arrival of another player, then we'll try to wait for him on the other side and fight with other coaches.

“If he plays tomorrow it's probably confirmation they'll count on him next season.”

Ronaldo in Real squad

13:10: Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in Real Madrid's squad for the UEFA Super Cup clash with Manchester United.

The 32-year-old forward was given an extended break following his part in Portugal's Confederations Cup campaign, before appearing at a Spanish court to answer charges relating to his tax returns.

Ronaldo has denied he evaded tax or hid details of his income from the authorities - charges that led the world's best player to seriously consider a move away from the Bernabeu earlier in the summer.

However, the Portuguese appears set to stay put and, despite only just returning to training, has been included in the 24-man squad taking on former club United in Macedonia.

Aurier wants United switch

12:35: Manchester United could still sign Paris St-Germain full-back Serge Aurier.

The Red Devils, along with Premier League rivals Chelsea, have both been linked with the 24-year-old, who's been banned from entering the UK.

French newspaper L'Equipe says Aurier would rather join Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

And a breakthrough could happen in the next 24 hours with Aurier set to learn if his appeal against the ban has been successful today.

Dendoncker wants a new challenge

10:50: Manchester United target Leander Dendoncker wants a new challenge according to his agent.

The midfielder is keen to quit Anderlecht this summer and is ready to move to Old Trafford.

United were thought to have given up on signing him this summer after getting the deal for Nemanja Matic over the line.

But Jose Mourinho may be persuaded to go in again after these latest comments.

“Anderlecht want to keep him but the kid wants a new challenge,” his agent Christophe Henrotay said.

Trust Mou - Lukaku

07:30: Romelu Lukaku has reassured fans that Jose Mourinho is doing everything to take Manchester United back to the top.

"The club is in a rebuilding process and the manager is doing the right things to take the club back to where it belongs," said Lukaku.

"That's the exciting part. He's a manager to help us win trophies.

"The club is there to help me, but I'm a team player and I want to win trophies. That's the most important thing – trophies before everything.

"So if I can help my team-mates to do that, I'll be delighted. I just want to improve constantly. I don't want to have time to be complacent."

Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi could break my record, says Wayne Rooney

05:40: Wayne Rooney says he fears for his Manchester United goalscoring record...if the club sign someone like Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

“You never know, if they get someone like Messi or Ronaldo the record might get broken!” he said.

"But I think that in football now, players don’t really tend to stay at clubs for that long. The only way I can see it being broken is if someone stays for the same period of time that I did.

“It’s a great legacy to have left behind at United. I have got some great memories of a successful time for the club. It was great for me.

“I loved it there, loved working with the players, but it was the right time for me to move on and I feel I’ve certainly made the right decision.”
