Liverpool are desperate to retain Coutinho for the season and are aware of Barcelona's interest.

Barca have cash to spend after selling Neymar to PSG in a £199million deal yesterday.

They need a replacement for the Brazilian but have already seen a £72m bid for his compatriot Coutinho rejected by Liverpool.

A second bid is expected, although the Reds are likely to reject that unless Coutinho kicks up a fuss and forces a move.

And The Sun claim Liverpool are aware that they may have to sign a replacement for the 25-year-old this summer.

According to the report, Aubameyang is an option should Coutinho leave a space vacant in Jurgen Klopp's squad.

Klopp is said to have chased Borussia Dortmund star Aubameyang earlier this summer - only to surrender his pursuit of the Gabon international.

Klopp managed Aubameyang while in charge of Dortmund but has supposedly been put off by his former club's asking price.

Now, however, the Sun suggest that Klopp will likely rekindle that interest should he have the Coutinho funds at his disposal.

Liverpool have already broken their transfer record this summer with the £39m arrival of Mohamed Salah from Roma.
