TOTTENHAM should accept Manchester United's £40million bid for Eric Dier, according to Dean Ashton.

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier has been linked with a move to Manchester United who have been splashing the cash this summer.

The Red Devils have spent in excess of £100m on Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku and have reportedly made a £40m bid for Dier.

The Bookies have made United 2/1 favourites to sign the England international this summer.

And former West Ham striker Dean Ashton thinks Spurs would be foolish to turn down such a big offer for the 23-year-old.

Asked if he would accept £40m for Dier, Ashton told talkSPORT: “I would do, yeah.

“I think that’s unbelievable money for a holding midfielder.

"I know he is versatile and he has done very well for Spurs, but he doesn’t get in their best XI.

Dier made 48 appearances last term for Spurs in all competitions, but bookmakers BetStars are confident he can be tempted to join United.

“M are the front runners to bring Eric Dier across to Old Trafford and have been placed at 2/1 to sign the English midfielder," BetStars director Ian Marmion said.

"After missing out on Tiemoue Bakayoko, Jose Mourinho is keen to bring a defensive midfielder into the fray and Dier is the ideal candidate.

"The Spurs star is a dynamic player who would suit the defensive nature of Mourinho’s tactics."
