West Ham chief opens up on deadline day transfer plans: We tried to do this shock deal

West Ham are seeking new acquisitions ahead of the transfer deadline tonight (11pm).

They have already brought in Robert Snodgrass as a replacement for Payet, who secured his £25million move to Marseille yesterday.

Sullivan explained how the club have struggled to sign a striker in this transfer window.

West Ham have been linked with a host of forward but today withdrew their interest in Brentford's Scott Hogan.

And Sullivan revealed he pushed to land former Hammers striker Demba Ba, 31, from Shanghai Shenhua.

"We looked to bring Demba Ba back in this window but were told he was three weeks from playing after recovering from his injury," Sullivan said.

"Slaven and the team are very happy now. They've bonded."

Payet went on strike in order to push through the move, despite the player having signed a £125,000-a-week contract at the London Stadium just a year ago.

He was named Player of the Season at West Ham last term but his performances this campaign dipped.

But Sullivan insists he doesn't regret first signing the France international.

"What Dimi said to me is that his family hadn't settled," Sullivan told talkSPORT.
