Martin Keown blasts Dimitri Payet over West Ham spat: Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal keen

DIMITRI PAYET has been “absolutely scandalous” in his refusal to play for West Ham, claims former Arsenal defender Martin Keown.

Fan alleges Payet is leaving West Ham to be with his family

Payet says he won’t play for and wants a transfer in this month’s transfer window.

Express Sport understands Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all interested in the France international.

But Keown says the situation at the London Stadium should never have come to this.

“There’s a responsibility as a young man to behave in the right way,” Keown told Football Focus.

“No one forced him to sign that contract. He knew exactly what he was doing.

“Yes he is an outstanding player and is not happy with his situation but you have to play. You’re there to play and to refuse to is absolutely scandalous.

“This is where it’s gone now. It’s club versus the player. Who is the strongest in the situation? Are there really any winners?

“He needs to get out there and play.

“A compromise should have been found before the point where it becomes so public as it has.”

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all interested in signing Payet

Payet has plenty of suitors in the Premier League, with Chelsea flush with cash and seeking playmakers after the £60million sale of Oscar to Shanghai SIPG.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is also on the look-out for deals following Morgan Schneiderlin’s sale to Everton, while Memphis Depay is expected to leave.

And Arsenal are thought to be open for a move for Payet, although they are unlikely to enter a bidding war if other suitors make substantial offers.
