The Algerian enjoyed a memorable 2015/16 season, scoring 17 goals as the Foxes won the Premier League title.

Last August, he signed a new contract worth around £35,000-a-week but his performances have led to considerable interest from several clubs.

And according to Eurosport FR, the 25-year-old has decided to join Arsenal after accepting their offer.

The report says talks are at an advanced stage and the Gunners will make a bid of around £41.8million (50m euros) for Mahrez.

It is claimed Leicester will not stop Mahrez if he pushes for the move.

Arsenal have already attempted to prise Jamie Vardy from the champions but the England striker rejected the move and is set to sign a new long-term deal.

But another of Leicester's key players from last season, N'Golo Kante has left the King Power stadium, to join Chelsea.

Manager Claudio Ranieri was quizzed about Mahrez's future during the week and was confident he would stay at the club.

He said: “Everybody here is happy and, yes, he [Mahrez] wants to stay.

“No other players will go away – we will stay together. Riyad will stay with us for all of the years.”
