Pep Guardiola makes big Man City transfer statement, major concern for PL rivals

Not content with mostly rebuilding the Man City team since taking charge at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola has hinted that there is plenty more to come.

Things didn’t go to plan for the Spanish tactician in his first year at the helm as he was left empty-handed, but he looks on course to change that this season.

City sit top of the Premier League table after 10 games, winning nine and remaining unbeaten, while they’ve scored a staggering 35 goals in that time period as well as going well in the Champions League after securing their place in the knockout stage.

In turn, they’ve set an ominous early pace as they prepare to face Arsenal this weekend, and perhaps the biggest concern for their rivals on hearing Guardiola’s press conference on Friday is that he dropped a big hint that they’re going to make big moves again next summer.

“Maybe we will add in January, we are going to decide. Next season we have to shake the team again,” he said, as reported by The Mirror.

“Last season there was a lot because the average age was 28 or 29 now we are a young team. But we’ll buy players. We’ll try to analyse and buy the right players.”

The 46-year-old makes a valid point in terms of lowering the average age of his squad, as with the likes of Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta, he had an ageing group that arguably couldn’t carry out his instructions and style of play as perfectly as he would have liked.

While he’s certainly already addressed a number of problems with the signings of Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane and Benjamin Mendy, it sounds as though the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss still has plenty left to figure out.

Provided that they can sustain their start to the season, that’s a very worrying statement for their rivals if they intend on getting even better next summer.
