What did Guardiola have to say on Sanchez?

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was quizzed about his transfer pursuit of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez ahead of the two teams’ meeting in the Premier League this weekend.

The Blues host the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with much of the talk beforehand revolving around Sanchez and the prospect of him potentially moving to City in January or on a free transfer next summer.

The Daily Mirror recently claimed City would wait until the end of the season to revive their bid for the Chile international, though the Daily Telegraph suggested members of the Arsenal squad expected Arsene Wenger to cash in on him in January.

Sanchez worked with Guardiola at Barcelona and could be about to again, but for now the Spanish tactician was keen not to be drawn on issues involving the player linking up with his side.

‘It’s not time to talk about that. The transfer window is closed,’ Guardiola was quoted by football.london.

‘Out of respect for the Arsenal player and especially for my players.

‘My opinion on Alexis you know, I’ve spoken about it many times about that but he’s an Arsenal player so it’s not to correct to talk about that, especially before a game against them.’

Wenger also addressed the issue of Sanchez perhaps being distracted as he comes up against City, but the Frenchman dismissed any notions that he might not perform at his best.

‘I don’t see a problem,’ Wenger said. ‘I don’t see why against Man City would be different than against another team.

‘Alexis is a winner. When he walks on a football pitch, he wants to win.’
