Man United’s 1-0 victory was either a tactical masterclass or a stroke of defensive luck depending on who you ask. However, clever substitutions from Mourinho allowed United to maintain their second place position in the league and put three points between themselves and Spurs.

Anthony Martial has struggled to cement a place in the starting line-up but today’s winner is sure to act as more than a statement to Mourinho that he is ready to be given a starting position with Romelu Lukaku failing to score in United’s last four fixtures.

Fans and pundits alike were impressed by the Frenchman’s maturity when introduced from the bench at Old Trafford today with many now calling for him to be given a grater role in United’s plans.
