Pep Guardiola eyes sensational £89m+ Man City move for Europe’s most in-demand star

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly urging the club to break the world record transfer fee to sign Monaco youngster Kylian Mbappe.

The 18-year-old has lit Europe up this season, as he’s bagged 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.

Having been key in Monaco’s Ligue 1 title charge as well as their run in the Champions League, it’s no surprise that the teenager is attracting interest from European giants, and it’s reported by The Express that Guardiola wants to beat the competition with a world-record transfer fee in excess of £89m.

That figure was of course set just last summer when Manchester United signed Paul Pogba, but it looks as though their neighbours have ambitions of surpassing it in the coming months.

However, the report adds that Real Madrid are equally keen to break the bank for the French international, and so there is likely to be a real tug-of-war over his signing this summer.

As for City though, it seems as though Guardiola will replace Sergio Aguero moving forward and is looking for the perfect partner to play with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane.

That would undoubtedly be a dangerous and youthful attacking trident if Mbappe moved to the Etihad too, but time will tell whether or not City can convince him to make the move to England.

What is clear at this point though is that the youngster will have various options on the table this summer as his form this season has been electric, and he is rightly regarded as one of the top talents in Europe.

A fee of over £89m would be a gamble in that he hasn’t proven his quality over a long period, but the early signs are certainly positive and Guardiola wants to snap him up sooner rather than later it seems.
