Jose Mourinho urged to bring back ex-Manchester United star by club hero

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that Jose Mourinho would be wise to re-sign Michael Keane in the future.

The 24-year-old left Old Trafford in 2015, but has gone on to establish himself as a key figure for Burnley and has arguably proven that it was a mistake for United to let him go.

While the centre-half has since insisted that he doesn’t regret leaving as it has worked out pretty well for him, similarly to Paul Pogba, Ferdinand believes that United shouldn’t be apprehensive in bringing back a former starlet who has impressed elsewhere.

The pundit was at the club as Keane was coming through so has first-hand experience of seeing him train and improve, and he was impressed with what he saw then and what he’s seeing now.

“He likes to ask questions, he likes constructive criticism and that’s a great attribute to have, to be there, to look at your game in detail and try and improve,” Ferdinand told BBC 5 Live, as reported by the Mirror.

“He’s always wanting to improve, whether it’s nutrition, whether it’s physical, whether it’s actual working on your game after training. He was always wanting to learn and understand more.

“You look at the likes of Pogba; he’s gone away and come back now and become a huge star. Michael Keane, he could do that himself.”

Burnley have been highly impressive at home this season, conceding just 12 goals in 14 games, proving that Keane has had a major impact on their success having helped them gain promotion to the Premier League too.

Whether Jose Mourinho would be keen on the England U21 international remains to be seen, but he has been linked with signing a central defender in the summer and Keane would arguably fit the bill perfectly.
