Manchester United have reportedly joined Arsenal in showing interest in 21-year-old Uruguay centre-back Jose Gimenez.

According to The Mirror, the Red Devils have sent scouts to watch Gimenez, who has been in fine form for Atletico Madrid.

The Mirror also claim that Arsenal have already made enquiries about Gimenez, who is valued at £40m.

Were Arsenal to sign Gimenez for his reported value, he would become the club’s second most expensive signing ever.

Mesut Ozil is Arsenal’s record signing currently following his £42.5m move from Real Madrid in 2013, per Sky Sports, who say 2014 arrival Alexis Sanchez is second on £35m.

Gimenez is currently enjoying his fourth season in the Atletico first team and, based on WhoScored stats, he has only been dribbled past 35 times since making his La Liga debut in 2013.

He has represented his country 30 times at senior international level, scoring three goals.

Gimenez’s current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2018.
