Man United on the brink of making £22m Liverpool target their sixth summer signing

Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Barcelona forward Pedro after triggering the player’s £22 million release clause according to El Pais [via the Daily Telegraph].

27-year-old long-serving Barcelona star Pedro has seen his first-team chances severely limited since Luis Enrique took over as manager of the Nou Camp side last summer.

The arrival of Luis Suarez from Liverpool led to Enrique electing to forge a three-pronged attack that has seen the Uruguayan lining up alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar in a mouthwatering front-line that conquered all before them in 2014/15.

Pedro managed just 15 La Liga starts last term, and has been strongly linked with a move to Man United [via The Daily Telegraph] though some sources have claimed a move to Liverpool was also a possibility [via the Daily Star].

Louis van Gaal is fond of fieling a 4-3-3 formation and adaptable Barcelona star Pedro is capable of filling roles centrally as well as on either flank.

Pedro is a hugely experienced campaigner who has netted 98 times in 318 appearances for Barcelona, one of those goals coming during his side’s 3-1 Champions League final win over Man United in 2011.

Should Man United secure a deal to sign Pedro, then the versatile forward would become Louis van Gaal’s sixth summer signing following the captures of Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero.
