Indeed Jose Mourinho has already set his sights on Saint-Etienne youngster Kurt Zouma as a replacement for the 26 year old Blues fan favourite.

Barcelona have been tracking Luiz for some months and are ready to renew their interest as Gerardo Martino looks to strengthen his Nou Camp defensive options, which currently only includes to senior central defenders in the form of Gerard Pique and veteran Carles Puyol, with Javier Mascherano being called upon to fill a makeshift role and Marc Bartra on hand to offer support.

Luiz has impressed in recent weeks though has only started eight of Chelsea’s 20 Premier League fixtures and is seemingly behind Gary Cahill in the pecking order with Mourinho favouring the England international as partner to ever present veteran John Terry.

David Luiz has worked well when used in a midfield role but if Barcelona make a big enough offer for the former Benfica man then it looks entirely plausible that Mourinho will seek to cash in.

19 year old French defender Zouma is currently in the middle of a ten match ban handed down to the French Under 21 international after a hideous tackle that broke Sochaux midfielder Thomas Guerbert’s leg in November.
