Tottenham agree personal terms with Davinson Sanchez, but Ajax holding out for €50m fee

Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax are continuing to work on the transfer of Davinson Sanchez to the Premier League, but while Spurs and the player have reportedly agreed to personal terms on a five year contract, the clubs are still working out the transfer fee.

Sanchez, who reportedly disappeared from the club for a while last week to force a loan to Tottenham, was spotted back in Ajax training this morning by De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij and was named to Ajax’s match-day squad for their match against Rosenborg tomorrow, though it sounds as though he may not play pending the ongoing negotiations.

Spurs have clearly identified Sanchez as one of their top targets in the transfer window, and most observers think a deal will get done before the end of the month. The hang-up appears to be over the size and nature of the transfer fee: De Telegraaf Sport say that Spurs have offered a €40m deal (including a lower fee with a bunch of incentives) while Ajax is holding out for a €50m fee for their star player. Negotiations are continuing.

Sanchez, 21, was voted Ajax’s Player of the Year after last season and would be an impressive addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s defensive corps. He’s been favorably compared to another former Ajax player, Jan Vertonghen. There is also supposed interest for Sanchez from Chelsea and Real Madrid, but the player wants to play for Pochettino.
