Are Tottenham Hotspur back in for Juan Foyth?

The last we heard from Juan Foyth, the teenage Argentine youth international center back from Estudiantes, he was on the verge of signing for Paris St. Germain after the Ligue 1 club GAZUMPED Tottenham Hotspur for his services. And that was the end of that, right?

Not so fast, my friends! Foyth still hasn’t signed with the French giants, and there’s still a chance that he could end up in north London after all. The Argentine paper that has been at the forefront of this whole saga, El Dia (as reported by Sport Witness), says that Foyth’s move to Paris has “stagnated” and that Pochettino may have convinced him to sign with Tottenham after a phone call in the initial round of negotiations.

According to El Dia, Foyth has decided that he wants to play for Pochettino at Tottenham, but his club has already agreed to a €12m fee with PSG, putting the two at a bit of an impasse. Spurs’ last offer was less than that, and this being Daniel Levy probably was a worse deal with incentives and the like. Also there were reports in the British media that Pochettino had pulled the plug on the deal once PSG did the gazumping, considering Foyth too expensive at that point.

The big question is whether or not Spurs want to go back in for Foyth. El Dia seems to think that Foyth would welcome that, but there doesn’t seem to be any indication at this point that they’re willing to do so. Estudiantes chairman Juan Sebastian Veron would also need to sanction the transfer for the lower fee, something that he’d only be willing to do if Foyth is adamant that he’s not signing for PSG.

Spurs are currently working on signing Ajax Player of the Season Davinson Sanchez, who plays in the same position. Would Spurs want to sign another young CB? Sanchez, Foyth, and Carter-Vickers would make up a pretty decent young CB corps, though it seems somewhat more likely that Foyth would compete with Carter-Vickers more than he would Vertonghen, at least initially. For now, it sounds like Foyth thinks that Pochettino’s system is a better fit for him than Unai Emery’s. We’ll have to wait to see if Spurs are interested in going back in.
