Monday Hoddle of Coffee: That Was Fun! August 14, 2017

Let’s do that again!

A recap of match day one:

  • Arsenal won but was ropey as hell defensively.
  • Chelsea had two red cards and lost at home to Burnley.
  • Liverpool proved that they are already in mid-season form, dominating Watford for long stretches but giving up many high quality chances en route to an extremely hilarious draw.
  • Manchester City and Manchester United looked really really sharp.
  • We won.

Going into the weekend, I felt like we had four of the big six facing major questions about quality and depth while the two Manchester sides look like comfortable favorites in the title race. This weekend did nothing to convince me that my read is wrong. (Obviously it is only one weekend, of course.) We obviously have work to do, but it’s hard to be too upset about a comfortable 2-0 win at Newcastle on opening weekend. Sissoko and Walker-Peters were basically fine, Christian looked fantastic, and Dele put in a very good shift as well. There’s a lot to like here. What was your highlight from yesterday’s win?

Don’t miss TFT on Casemiro.

Barça is signing Paulinho. Really.

Dortmund has suspended Ousmane Dembele indefinitely.
