Harry Kane shortlisted for Ballon d’Or

Fresh off of an international break where he scored another two goals for England, Harry Kane has picked up another honor this season. Kane is one of 15 names released by France Football as shortlist candidates for the 2017 Ballon d’Or.

France Football is staggering the release of the 30 shortlist candidates (which, really, isn’t that short of a list) with half of the names released thus far. Kane is one of the more prominent names on that list, which includes Neymar, Luka Modric, and Luis Suarez.

EDIT: The full list has been revealed, and Kane is the only Tottenham Hotspur player on the list. You can probably make a strong argument that Christian Eriksen deserved to make the shortlist, but whatever. Stay under that radar, Christian - makes it less likely Barcelona will want to poach you.

The Ballon d’Or is still a thing, but it is now separated from FIFA and has reverted to the control of France Football. FIFA now has its own “The Best” year-end awards, and Kane was not one of the finalists for FIFA The Best Men’s Player — that honor went to Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar.
