Ugo Ehiogu to be remembered during FA Cup semifinal between Tottenham and Chelsea

The tragic loss of Tottenham Hotspur U23 coach, former Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, and Rangers player, and England international defender Ugo Ehiogo is still being felt by all those who were in contact with him today. Ugo was a friend to many and respected by all, and both Spurs and Chelsea will pay tribute to him before and during today’s FA Cup semifinal match at Wembley Stadium.

Both squads are expected to wear black armbands in tribute to the life of Ehiogu, and there will be one minute’s applause before kick-off. In addition, there have been suggestions on social media that another supporter-initiated round of applause will take place in the 44th minute.

Ehiogu was just 44 years old when he collapsed on Thursday at Spurs’ training center, Hotspur Way. He was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to what was later called cardiac arrest in the early hours of Friday morning.

Ehiogou was an English defender who had a career that took him to Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Rangers, and Sheffield United. He was the coach of Tottenham’s U23 squad since 2014 and was key to the development of many players now starting to break into Spurs’ first team such as Harry Winks, Kyle Walker-Peters, Shayon Harrison, Josh Onomah, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Marcus Edwards.

Tragedy often brings football fans together, and that seems to be happening here with both Chelsea and Tottenham supporters paying tribute to the life of a good man who perished before his time.
