This should be a barn-burner

With all due respect to Manchester City and Arsenal fans, this is the FA Cup semifinal that is the most compelling to neutral football fans, and for good reason! Chelsea are top of the league, Spurs are second, just four points behind. And while today’s match won’t have any impact on the league standing, mentally it can’t do anything but. Spurs are desperately hoping that Chelsea, who have dropped two of their last four matches after a truly amazing run earlier in the season, continue to slide on that banana peel. A demoralized Chelsea and a hot Spurs makes the title race all the more interesting, enough that maybe, just maybe, Spurs can pip it at the death.

But this is the FA Cup, and the cup is about silverware, and silverware is about glory. The FA Cup is the biggest and most prestigious single-elimination tournament in world club football, and for good reason. Hundreds of clubs enter every year from regional clubs and amateur duffer sides to the big boys of the Premier League, but there’s only one winner. If you only win one cup this year, make it the FA.

Spurs are the in-form team of the Premier League, winners of their last eight straight, and their squad is full of eager and talented youngsters such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Christian Eriksen. But Chelsea is first place for a reason. Antonio Conte has the services of players such as Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante, and Diego Costa.

Most casual observers expect this to be one heck of a match. A coin-flip game, even. As a Spurs blog, we say: let’s make it like White Hart Lane back in January.
