Report: Leicester City planning move for Kelechi Iheanacho

According to John Percy from the Telegraph, Leicester City are planning a £25 million move for Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Nigerian striker burst onto the scene in the 2015-16 season scoring 14 goals in all competitions. This past season Iheanacho managed just 7 total goals as playing time became an issue with the arrival of Gabriel Jesus.

Following their title-winning campaign Leicester struggled last season and eventually sacked manager Claudio Ranieri. Craig Shakespeare took over and led the club to a 12th place finish. Shakespeare was given the permanent job in the summer and appears to have Iheanacho high on his list of priorities.

It’s understood Iheanacho will be sold to help finance City’s massive spending spree this summer and the Nigerian had previously been linked with West Ham United. It seems the Foxes are ready to get the player they want and are preparing their move.

While the Nigerian striker is talented and undoubtedly has a knack for finding the back of the net, for his career he may be better served heading to Leicester where he'll get more playing time than in Manchester. Leicester play a two-striker formation and Iheanacho could help ease the goal-scoring burden of Jamie Vardy.

At City it’s possible Iheanacho would end up fourth-choice striker behind Sergio Agüero, Gabriel Jesus, and possibly Alexis Sánchez.
