2018 World Cup qualifying: Aaron Ramsey to miss Wales qualifiers

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey will miss October's World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Georgia because of a hamstring injury.

The Arsenal man, 25, has not played since getting injured on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Midfielder Jonny Williams has returned to light training with loan club Ipswich but is lacking match fitness and is also not included.

Shaun MacDonald has been called up, but George Williams is left out.

The Euro 2016 semi-finalists started their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 4-0 win over Moldova in September and play Austria on 6 October followed by Georgia in Cardiff three days later.

Ramsey was Wales' outstanding player at Euro 2016, but was suspended for the 2-0 semi-final defeat by Portugal.

    Ramsey is just as important as Bale and Austria will be a tough test. Good luck to Wales maybe momentum can take them a long way, but its going to tough to win tat group.

    It's ok, we've only had to hear about the mighty England's managerial situation every second of every single day.

    On this I am really not expecting a win. Austria are a pretty good team.

    I was gutted that Allardyce lost his job. Wales could have remained above England in the rankings for years with him in charge.

    I feel sorry for Ramsey , he's a great player and could be something special, I hope his injuries finally end ..on a side note does anyone know when St Totteringham day is this year ?

    It's a shame as if Ramsay hadn't been missing against Portugal Wales would have won the Euros. Bale had to pick up balls from midfield. Against Austria we should be fine as they were God awful in the championship.

    As sure as night follows day, if there's an article about Arsenal or an Arsenal player, an HYS will have comments from the ever present, Arsenal obsessed, glen.
    His latest 'pearls of wisdom' about Spurs 'superior' record in Europe, must be his way of ignoring the fact that Arsenal are superior when it comes to league titles and FA Cup wins.
    Mind you, if I was a Spurs fan, I'd keep quiet too.

    I hope Wales get a win in Austria. A much better team all round than England with team spirit running all the way through this team. Wales will miss Ramsey, but I don't think it will be thought about as Wales have good replacements for him.

    England are, for a man, better than each Welsh player by a very significant margin (Bale aside) but Wales have the passion and motivation which England don't. I think everybody would agree with that statement.
