Arsenal winger Chris Willock is set to join Benfica, where he will play for the Portuguese club’s B team, according to reports.

Willock’s Arsenal contract expires at the end of this month and, although he has been offered a new deal, the 19-year-old hasn’t yet signed an extension.

As reported by Record.pt, Willock has been in Portugal discussing a potential move to Benfica.

The Hale End product has made two senior appearances for the Arsenal first-team, both of which came in the EFL Cup last season.

His brother Joe is also approaching the end of his contract.

  1. It’s hard to tell whether our prospects will develop into first team quality professionals but this certainly seems like one the better chances is slipping away. I know that Nelson looks great as well but I can’t help but think Chris Willock will go on to be quite a player. This also makes it all the more likely that his brother will follow him out of the exit door as well. Shame.

  2. please jeorge, tell me this a hoax – this is the one talent i am very excited about, willock > adelaide, akpom, iwobi. maybe not malen tho

  3. That’s a very good decision to be honest. I thought he would choose city and waste his career. But he did well to choose benefica. Benefica is one of the best or as good as any club out there to develop and young player. The list of talent they churn out is mind boggling.

    Your thoughts jeorge??

      1. It is disappointing yes , but I can understand him if he wants to leave. he has been drifting out of wengers plan for a while. Hope he can become the first player to make his name outside England

  4. Owen Hargreaves and Eric Dier might gave something to say about that! And he is in Wenger’s plans, he has talked him up for a while and he handed him a debut last year. I think he is probably thinking that there is a new reality at Arsenal now where we are more free spending and moving away from the youth focus. He wants to play. We can’t be too annoyed at him for that.

    1. Absolutely, supporters wanting success, but also wanting kids to break through. Very rarely can you have both, imagine putting willock Nelson adelaide Niles, etc in the team then winning f all again.

Let’s get real if anyone can spot a first team star from the academy it is wenger. What kid has left recently and become a player u would put in our first team?

      1. The closest would be Ozyakup, and I still wouldn’t have him on our bench let alone in the 1st 11.

      2. Gnabry hasn’t had great success yet. Just bcos he has moved to Munich, doesn’t mean arsenal made a bad decision there either. If however he goes on to be a good player for them, then yes he could be the first. I wouldn’t say ozyakup being at besiktas means he could be in our first team either

  5. Good choice to choose Benfica. Going to City would have been disappointment. Going abroad is a huge mental step and it will make him better player. Coming back to Arsenal is easier from Benfica than from City. Sad to lose raw talent like him, but hope he can make it there.
